PLAIN-LANGUAGE OVERVIEW

SINP in plain language

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program selects workers the province needs — through the International Skilled Worker category for applicants from outside the province, and the Saskatchewan Experience category for people already working in Saskatchewan.

Selection for several sub-streams runs through an Expression of Interest system: you submit a profile, and the province invites candidates in periodic draws. Saskatchewan has also been prioritizing certain sectors as its nomination allocation tightened.

Business pathways permanently closed.

Effective March 27, 2025, the SINP permanently closed all Entrepreneur and Farm immigration pathways. No new applications, expressions of interest, or invitations are accepted. Existing applications in the system continue to be processed.

Who this guide may suit

  • Skilled workers with a permanent, full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer
  • Workers in in-demand occupations applying from outside Canada through Occupation In-Demand
  • Express Entry candidates who meet the Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-stream criteria
  • People already working in Saskatchewan on a valid work permit, including recent graduates
  • Workers in targeted areas such as health, hospitality, and long-haul trucking, where dedicated projects exist

Eligibility factors to review

Immigration rules change frequently.

These are key factors, not a complete eligibility test. Check the current official instructions and your individual circumstances before applying.

Category and sub-stream fit

International Skilled Worker covers Employment Offer, Occupation In-Demand, and Saskatchewan Express Entry. Saskatchewan Experience covers people already working in the province, including students and sector-specific projects.

Points and Expression of Interest

Several sub-streams use a points grid and Expression of Interest selection. Scores from past draws are not thresholds for future rounds — review the current guide rather than planning around an old number.

Job offer and employer details

Where a job offer is required, the employer's position, the wage, and the occupation details are examined closely. The duties must match the occupation code claimed, and regulated occupations need Saskatchewan licensing.

Closed business pathways

The Entrepreneur, International Graduate Entrepreneur, and Farm Owner/Operator pathways are permanently closed to new applicants. Do not plan an application around them; look at active worker or federal options instead.

A careful, step-by-step approach

  1. Confirm your category

Check the current SINP program pages to confirm your category and sub-stream are open and fit your situation.

  2. Submit your Expression of Interest

Where required, register an accurate EOI profile that reflects your real work history, language results, and credentials.

  3. Apply when invited

If invited, submit the complete nomination application with full evidence before the deadline — incomplete files stall or fail.

  4. Apply to IRCC after nomination

Once nominated, apply for permanent residence through the route the province specifies — Express Entry or the regular process.

Your document starting point

The exact checklist depends on your route, stage, and circumstances. This list helps prepare the discussion; it does not replace IRCC's personalized document requirements.

  • Passport and identity documents for you and accompanying family members
  • Job offer and employer position documentation, where required
  • Work experience evidence: reference letters, contracts, and pay records
  • Education credentials and assessments where the sub-stream requires them
  • Language test results meeting the current sub-stream requirements
  • Saskatchewan licensing or registration for regulated occupations
  • Settlement funds evidence, where applicable

Refusal risks and preparation pitfalls

Eligibility and evidence both matter. The following points deserve attention; this is not an exhaustive list or a prediction of a decision.

  • Planning around the closed Entrepreneur or Farm pathways
  • An occupation code that does not match your actual duties
  • Missing Saskatchewan licensing for a regulated occupation
  • Changes to your job, employer, wage, or hours after submitting — report changes early
  • Paying anyone a fee to obtain a job offer — this is not acceptable

Common questions

Can I still immigrate to Saskatchewan as an entrepreneur or farm owner?

Not through a current SINP business pathway. All Entrepreneur and Farm Owner/Operator pathways were permanently closed effective March 27, 2025. Existing applications continue to be processed; new applicants should look at other federal or provincial options.

Do I need a job offer?

It depends on the sub-stream. Employment Offer routes require one; Occupation In-Demand and Saskatchewan Express Entry routes do not always require one. Check the current criteria for the sub-stream you are considering.

What is the Saskatchewan Experience category?

It is for people already working in Saskatchewan on a valid work permit — including existing work permit holders, health professionals, hospitality and long-haul truck workers, and recent graduates of Saskatchewan institutions.

How does Expression of Interest selection work?

For several sub-streams, you submit an EOI profile and the province invites candidates in periodic draws based on current criteria and priorities. An EOI is not an application, and selection is competitive.

Is a nomination the same as permanent residence?

No. After nomination you apply to IRCC for permanent residence, and IRCC makes the final decision including medical, security, and admissibility checks.
