PLAIN-LANGUAGE OVERVIEW

The YNP in plain language

The Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) allows Yukon employers to nominate foreign workers for permanent residence when qualified Canadians are not available. The worker program is strictly employer-driven: the employer applies on the worker's behalf, not the worker alone.

In 2026 the program runs three worker streams — Skilled Worker, Critical Impact Worker, and Yukon Express Entry — with employers submitting expressions of interest during open intakes. Entrepreneurs use the separate Yukon Business Nominee Program.

Who this guide may suit

  • Workers with a full-time Yukon job offer in a higher-skilled occupation
  • Entry-level workers in TEER 4 or 5 roles with a Yukon employer sponsor
  • Express Entry candidates with a qualifying Yukon job offer
  • Entrepreneurs planning to invest in and actively run a Yukon business
  • Yukon employers seeking to retain foreign workers

Eligibility factors to review

Immigration rules change frequently.

These are key factors, not a complete eligibility test. Check the current official instructions and your individual circumstances before applying.

Employer-driven applications

The employer submits the application under the worker streams. Workers cannot apply independently without an eligible employer.

A qualifying job offer

You need a genuine, full-time offer from a Yukon employer. The stream depends on the occupation's skill level: higher-skilled roles under Skilled Worker, entry-level roles under Critical Impact Worker.

Express Entry alignment

Yukon Express Entry requires acceptance into IRCC's Express Entry pool in addition to the qualifying Yukon job offer.

Business experience

The Business Nominee route is for entrepreneurs who will actively manage a Yukon business. Intake can be limited or periodic, so check the official site.

A careful, step-by-step approach

  1. Secure a qualifying Yukon job offer

The employer must be eligible and the position must fit one of the worker streams.

  2. Employer submits expression of interest

During open intakes, the employer enters the YNP process on the worker's behalf.

  3. Complete the full application

Invited employers complete the nomination application with the worker's documents and evidence.

  4. Nomination, then federal PR

After nomination, the worker applies to IRCC for permanent residence.

Your document starting point

The exact checklist depends on your route, stage, and circumstances. This list helps prepare the discussion; it does not replace IRCC's personalized document requirements.

  • Passport and identity documents
  • Job offer and Yukon employer details
  • Current language test results
  • Educational Credential Assessment for foreign education
  • Work permits and employment records, where relevant
  • Business plan and financial documents (Business Nominee)
  • Police and medical documents when IRCC requires them

Refusal risks and preparation pitfalls

Eligibility and evidence both matter. The following points deserve attention; this is not an exhaustive list or a prediction of a decision.

  • No eligible Yukon employer willing to apply
  • Job offers that do not meet the stream's terms
  • Missing intake windows or employer EOI periods
  • Expired language tests or credential assessments
  • Assuming the worker can apply without the employer

Common questions

Can I apply to the YNP without a job offer?

The worker streams require a Yukon job offer with the employer applying. Only the Business Nominee route is for those without an employer.

What changed in the program for 2026?

Yukon updated the worker program to three streams with employer expressions of interest during intakes. Confirm the current intake status on the official site.

Does the employer really apply for me?

Yes. The worker streams are employer-driven, and the business submits the application.

Is there a separate entrepreneur route?

Yes. The Yukon Business Nominee Program is separate from the worker streams.

How long does nomination take?

Timelines depend on intakes and processing volumes. Check the official site for current information.
