PLAIN-LANGUAGE OVERVIEW

Ontario's program was rebuilt from scratch.

In 2026 Ontario revoked all of its former nomination categories under Ontario Regulation 47/26 (effective May 30, 2026) — the Employer Job Offer, Human Capital, Skilled Trades, Masters and PhD Graduate, and Entrepreneur routes no longer exist. The province then launched a new Ontario Workforce Priority stream, and Ontario's official page states plainly that all other streams are closed and more changes are coming soon. This page does not restate third-party summaries of the new criteria; check the official Ontario stream page directly and treat every older guide as out of date.

Who this guide may suit

  • Workers and graduates who were planning an application under a former OINP stream and need a new strategy.
  • People holding a nomination or application issued under a former stream, checking what still applies to their file.
  • Candidates with Ontario job offers watching the new Workforce Priority stream.
  • Applicants considering other provinces' PNPs while Ontario changes unfold.
  • Anyone told online that Ontario has "no streams" — the official status needs direct verification, not rumour.

What we know

Immigration rules change frequently.

Ontario's program is mid-rebuild. The points below reflect the verified official status, not a guess at eligibility criteria.

Former streams revoked

Ontario revoked all former OINP nomination categories in 2026. Those routes no longer accept applicants and their criteria cannot be used to plan.

New stream launched

Ontario's official page states the new Ontario Workforce Priority stream has launched and all other streams are closed. Its criteria live only on the official page — read them there, not here.

More changes expected

Ontario says to watch for more changes soon. Verify the current official instructions and your individual circumstances before applying.

Sensible next steps

  1. Verify the official status

Read Ontario's current OINP page and the official Workforce Priority stream page before any planning.

  2. Protect what you already filed

If you submitted an application under a former stream, get professional advice on how your file is treated now.

  3. Build a parallel plan

Keep other options moving — Express Entry, other provincial programs, or valid work-permit routes — while Ontario's changes settle.

Keep ready

The exact checklist depends on your route, stage, and circumstances. This list helps prepare the discussion; it does not replace IRCC's personalized document requirements.

  • Passport and identity documents.
  • Any nomination certificate, invitation, or application confirmation tied to a former OINP stream.
  • Ontario job offer letter and employment contract, if held.
  • Education assessments and valid language test results.
  • Correspondence from Ontario or IRCC about your file.

Avoid these mistakes

Eligibility and evidence both matter. The following points deserve attention; this is not an exhaustive list or a prediction of a decision.

  • Planning from pre-2026 OINP guides, stream names, or calculators — those routes are gone.
  • Assuming old EOI profiles, waitlists, or points carried over to the new system.
  • Treating a third-party summary of the new stream as official criteria.
  • Pausing all immigration planning while waiting for Ontario's next announcement.

Common questions

Is Ontario accepting PNP applications right now?

Ontario states that the new Ontario Workforce Priority stream has launched and all other streams are closed, with more changes coming. Verify the current intake status on the official Ontario pages before acting.

Can I still use a nomination issued under a former stream?

Nominations already issued generally remain usable within their stated terms, and applications submitted under former streams continue under the rules in force when filed. Get advice on your specific file rather than assuming.

What replaced the old OINP streams?

Ontario replaced the former streams with the Ontario Workforce Priority stream. This page does not summarize its criteria — read the official stream page directly, as details are changing.

Should I consider another province instead?

Several other provincial nominee programs are running active draws. A licensed consultant can compare your profile against current programs so you are not waiting on one announcement.
